At Mahasai Montessori, we believe that education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself. Located in the heart of Anna Nagar, Chennai, our resource centre serves as a sanctuary for children and a beacon for aspiring educators. We are more than a school; we are a community dedicated to the radical idea that children are the architects of their own intelligence.
Montessori is Education for life
Mahasai Montessori was founded by Mrs. Lakshmi Venkata krishnan with a clear vision and the
trust of a few supportive parents
When COVID-19 closed classrooms, education moved beyond walls through personal,
home-based support.
With God’s grace and parental support, the centre moved into a dedicated learning environment.
Today, Mahasai Montessori thrives—built on trust, resilience, and a shared commitment to joyful
learning.
True character is revealed in times of crisis. When the global pandemic of 2020 shuttered classrooms worldwide, Mahasai Montessori refused to let the spark of learning dim. Recognizing that the Montessori method is fundamentally tactile and physical, Mrs. Lakshmi made a profound decision: she transformed her own home into a classroom.
During 2020 and 2021, home-based support became our hallmark. We curated specialized Montessori material kits and provided personalized guidance to families, ensuring that our students’ developmental needs were met despite the physical walls of a traditional school being closed. This period of “Home-as-a-Classroom” solidified the bond between our facilitators and parents, proving that our commitment to the child transcends any physical location.
In 2021, fueled by this unwavering community support and a shared resilience, Mahasai Montessori transitioned into our dedicated, state-of-the-art learning environment. Today, we stand as a thriving hub of activity, built on the bedrock of trust and the “joyful learning” that defined our earliest days.
The name “Mahasai” represents a bridge—a connection between a child’s innate, inner potential and the vast possibilities of the external world. Our mission is to offer an authentic Montessori environment that honors the “Inner Blueprint” of every child.
We adhere strictly to the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. Our classrooms are “Prepared Environments” where every material is sized to the child, every shelf is within reach, and every activity serves a specific developmental purpose. Here, children are free to explore, discover, and learn at their own pace.
1. The child depends on the adult to provide a prepared environment and the opportunity to use these tendencies to their fullest in order to fulfil their needs.
2. The prepared environment should be simple, beautiful and orderly, with plenty of room to move around as well as an arrangement which requires both gross and fine motor movement.
3. A regular routine should be established with the children. The child thrives on hearing real language, enunciated clearly not baby talk or watered down sentences. The child needs guidance and advice for specific social situations as they present themselves.
4. The child needs to see excellent role models, who perhaps make mistakes but are quick to recognize them, ask forgiveness and improve themselves.
5. The child needs opportunities for rest and reflection after the moment of intense work, therefore simpler activities should always be present in the environment to which the child can return at anytime.
6. The adult should allow the child to participate in the world around them, opening and closing doors and drawers, helping to prepare or clean up for various family and social activities.
7. The adult should move at child’s pace, there should be substantial time to allow the child for plenty of repetition without unnecessary interruption, materials and activities which require exactness, including glass and other fragile materials which requires exactness of movement, materials at the child’s level to promote usage.
8. Mistakes should be expected and almost encouraged with materials, activities and words set up in a manner which allows for auto correction
We do not view the child as a mere academic entity. Our focus is 360-degree development:
Moving from concrete materials to abstract reasoning.
Refining motor skills and bodily awareness.
